I was just going towards the stage to find a friend when I was stunned with something which came towards my face. However, I was able to catch it as I guessed it was a football which came towards me. Yeah. It was a ball with FAM logo stamped on it. Everyone who went to the awards ceremony got one including myself. I took it to home not to play, but to treasure it. However, I am not going to talk about the ball which was presented to me. I didn’t take it home to play using it, but to treasurer it. The ball would be remembered as a moment from the prestigious FAM Awards Ceremony which was held in Dharubaaruge Rannnabadeyri Maalam. FAM held another bogus award ceremony which they really make a huge fuss. However, for one thing for sure, the award ceremony was the best decorated ceremony which FAM has hosted so far in their entire history. Unluckily, there was no special seating arrangement for the Journalists hence, like all the other guests I set in the guest area. I set with all the other journalists right at the back of the seating so that I could view the whole place. Few minutes later, a beautiful girl approached asking for us to move to the front seats because there were so many empty seats. However, with minor consultation the girl agreed for us to stay. Maldivesoccer.com wanted to bring the award ceremony live from Dharubaaruge, however as maldivesoccer.com’s main sponsor is Dhiraagu, there were confusions with the sponsor of FAM Awards night and it was not feasible. But at the last moment, we managed to bring the event live. To start, FAM’s interim Committee’s chairman’s inaugural speech was shocking. He just thanked TVM, Voice of Maldives and DhiFM for bringing the event live. However, missed the rest of the media! What about the work they have been doing for the entire season bringing events and news to the public raising the tempo with an era of FAM’s stupidest mistakes. It was almost a replica of FIFA Gala 2007, which I would surely applaud. Something new and at last FAM has started their learning process. I would give one credit point for them! At least there was some kind of characteristics of a football in the ceremony compared to all the other ceremonies. However, the announcers were not up to my satisfactory. The male presenter was quite comfortable while the female presenter was suffering from finding words to express herself. FAM Awards have always been surprising and this year was not different at all. A new award just popped out in the ceremony. Instead of giving the best referee to one referee, it was distributed among three: Fareed, Riyaz and Ameez. As Riyaz was not in Male’ it was announced it would be handed over to him later on. I guess the next awards went smoothly until the best players’ awards. As previous years, the best three players were nominated and as the best player is awarded first, the rest of the awards seem to be out of context. However, if five players were nominated the best three would be a thrilling and unusual experience for sure. Lots of funny incidents happened when the best player award was nominated. Female announcer accidently spilled out foul language in the middle of the ceremony. Anyways she corrected herself with the error. Later on repeated, “and he came the other day” explaining that Ashfaaq came back to Maldives last night. The most controversial award of the night was given to New Radiant’s Assad Abdul Ghanee. Even though he had a fantastic season the contribution made by Shamveel Gasim was far better. Well, who am I to compare the brains of the best football governors in the country. My try! Vyansa’s award was also far more controversial. Here’s glimpse of the comparison done by maldivesoccer.com Vyansa played a total of 29 matches in the season for first division level matches including 1 match in FA Cup, 6 matches in Zone 9, and 12 matches in Dhiraagu Dhivehi League. They lost the match in FA Cup, won 3 matches in the 6 matches played in Zone 9 and won 6 matches of the 12 matches in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi League. In total they won 19 matches (47%), drew 3 (16%) and lost 8 (37%) matches On average they scored 1.42 goals per match and conceded 1.84 goals per match. This was the highest record comparing all the teams played in the National Grounds this season so far. However, this does not include the games played in second division. With all the controversies, the journalists requested to hold a press conference which was refused by the top guns of Football Association. The only answer was they would have a news conference at a later date. As usual FAM would hold a news conference when everything dies up and nobody gives a thought about it. Interestingly, the best part of the award ceremony was the food. FAM award ceremonies serve the best food. A great appetizer! Even though, the journalist’s questions were unanswered, we were given a ball to carry to fill our empty hands. Good choice! However, does carrying the ball back home solve everything! Here’s my verdict of the award ceremony. For the first time, FAM has passed with an aggregate score of 49. Need for improvement. However, a loud applause for the hard works done!
